A Silly Doodle

I've mentioned before that my spacing out is often due to imagining things I am too embarrassed to share before. One of these things (that I did confess to my roommate!) is imagining articulated buses as accordions. Sometimes when I'm on a bus, I like to try imagining what kind of music it would be making. Which is silly yes, but I also began to imagine what kind of people would be able to play a bus accordion, they're so big! So while watching a movie I made a drawing of a very long armed, bus accordionist.

Some doodles while I was passing time & filling up on coffee before seeing Yann Tiersen last month. I really like drawing hands even though I think they're hard to draw while keeping them normal(ish) looking. I'm thinking of doing these on canvas, it's been a while since I painted anything.

Sometimes when work is slow, I do other work (school work). But sometimes I like to draw. I never realized how bad I was at drawing flowers before!

More Doodling

I'm quite fond of this little doodle, mostly because of the friend I was thinking of while drawing. It looks nothing like my friend, but I feel like this character is somehow familiar. It is also a slightly more realistic drawing than what I usually make, but still quite cartoonish & I feel it still fits in with my normal style. I don't really want to be stuck doing the same thing always, I love ugly birds, but we don't need a million identical ones!

In Progress: Love & Letting Go

It's been quite some time since I updated about, "Love & Letting Go". As I mentioned before, while this project is similar to "Plant Collectors in Bolivia" except instead of piecing together bits of words from years & years, it would be an edit as you go, one year project. The name was chosen in May & is proving to be an accurate theme for the kind of year I've been having. When I chose the title, I didn't know I was going to move yet, I think I was still seriously considering online school because of the cost factor. But here I am & I find myself needing to let go of a whole mess of things in order to get on here.

Love & letting go are so linked, they are part of each other. I, like many people in the world, am prone to falling in love. Not necessarily in the romantic relationship kind of way, that has only happened once, but rather in every other way. I fall in love with the world, with someone's laugh, with the way the light is coming in at that window over there, with the wind, with the way certain books smell. Nothing is forever & these tiny things that are so easy to fall in love with are gone quickly. My heart is broken a thousand times a day, but it isn't something to be sad about. We all love, we all let go, we do it constantly, every day & I think that is the most endearing & wonderful thing we can do.

Just a Few Journal Pages

Doodling & playing with paint is fun which is why I recommend keeping a journal in which to do these things. A place to play, to not worry about things looking nice or interesting or even remotely creative, but to just have fun! I no longer have access to a scanner :( so I am having to take pictures of these pages which doesn't look quite as nice, but whatever.

Here are just a few little doodles I made in a journal while watching some television. I think there might have been an America's Next Top Model marathon on, one of my favorite guilty pleasures!

While I was doodling the second one, I was thinking about this billboard on the 99 for mini horse parties. I always always always want to call the number & actually just have a party for the mini horses, even going so far as daydreaming about what kinds of cake would be appropriate to bake for them. I also happened to be wearing that coin necklace & well, my imagination always blends things together in silly ways. I am thinking of embroidering this one actually.

Book 2: Love & Letting Go

It's been a few months since I started working on this other book & now it has a proper title. Unlike "plant collectors in bolivia", everything in this book has been included as it is written rather than compiled over a few years worth of material so a title was not easy to come up with so early; there is no way I could have predicted what I'd be writing about over the year.

But now, one theme does seem prevalent & that has become the title, "Love & Letting Go". This book is about feeling so in love with people, things, and moments that you're head is almost swollen, you are so close to floating into the clouds on love. But of course, you have to let it go sometimes. Nothing lasts forever except maybe the very act of loving itself. For everything & everyone that you love & let go, you find something new to fall in love with all over again. It is a cycle that is sometimes painful, always beautiful, & something that has been a huge part of my life so far this year. Some of these pages are immensely happy, some of them are lonely. I will be working on them until the end of this year, & I hope you will take the time to read them when they're ready.

The most obvious new thing is that I've changed Wordpress themes. While I really liked the layout of the other one, I found it to be too dark for my taste.
