Embroidered Memento Mori

It has been quite a long time since I've posted anything on here, but I finally had the Internet installed in my new apartment and I finally actually finished something! While making my embroidered memento mori, I got to this weird point where I just did not even wan to finish it and I wanted to work on it forever until the end of time, but I finally realized that was pretty dumb. So then I just let it be a bigger part of my weekends and evenings. For a few weeks I was coming home to sit & stitch, waking up & pricking my fingers over my cup of coffee (it's best to embroider after having some caffeine I later realized), and trying to take it with me everywhere I could within reason & wherever I could avoid fraying the fabric even more than it was! One of my favorite sittings with this was at a pretty nice park not far from my apartment & I think I need to do a better job of taking advantage of that place for more mobile projects like smaller embroidery pieces & drawing & writing & things. Anyway, I feel weird but pleased that this is done.
As for other things and more pictures of this thing, some of the other sewing projects I've just started this week, and general "what have you been up to"'s, my boyfriend showed me how to use instagram which I didn't even realize I had for several months so I have been having loads of fun with that & if you wish to see those things, I am, with my usual username "hellodenise".

Embroidery Progress

Coming along at a very slow pace, but this is what happens when you are ending school & in between apartments I suppose! Sometimes when I'm in the middle of making something that is a little more time consuming & detailed, I almost never want to finish in the same way that sometimes you never really want to complete a really good book. I like taking a few minutes in the morning to sit & stitch, I like having this bit of work as part of my day to day life.

Recent Things

Some time ago (a week? More than a week? What is time?) I went back home! It was such a brief visit, I essentially took a bus & a train for hours & hours on a Friday & then did the same thing on the Sunday. It was crazy! Being back for just that tiny tiny bit made me miss home quite a bit. I think the fact that I also happened to be listening to a lot of The Head & The Heart on the way there kind of exaggerated that feeling. Especially the following songs:

Anyway, in between reading & doodling, I took twenty thousand snapshots of "the windowwwwww". Here are some:

So yeah, my friend's graduation was definitely worth the fuss! I have a policy of not putting anyone's face publicly online when they do not normally put their own face online publicly so here are some more generic type shots.
Flowers for her!
Waiting for the graduates.

So so many of them!
Cute dogs live at home too!
Back in Los Angeles, I did other things like drink alien soda & pick up my cap & gown & I also briefly was at the Grove

The reason I've been without internet more often than not lately is because I have been slowly moving my life into a new apartment! I'm not really sure if staying in Los Angeles is one of the best decisions I've ever made, but this city just keeps throwing cool opportunities at me so I guess I'll stay until my welcome is worn out or until the next big thing comes along! Of the people who have seen it, the thing everyone loves is the amount of natural light that just fills the space so so nicely. Mini tour of how it's looking so far:

I took this while waiting for IKEA deliverymen & for my boyfriend to come & help me build things

Bird friend hanging out outside.
Other things that were good & that happened. I got my Leonard Cohen ticket in the mail & ate at a seafood restaurant that serves you by the pound.
