Another Walk

I really liked this field. There were a bunch of fig trees that always looked dead; they were twisted at odd angles, they looked very dried out. But secretly, those fig trees are alive. In the spring, they bloom, in the summer they bear fruit. Something about that makes me happy. Like how when you're a kid & you genuinely believe that all of your toys come to life the second you close the bedroom door & walk away. These trees come to life when they think they have everyone fooled. It's like magic, magic that you're able to see when you're a grown up & supposed to be beyond believing in those things, it's wonderful.

A Walk

A few snapshots from a walk I took with a friend back in July. When I think of my time living in the central valley, I think of it as being golden like this all the time. I know full well it wasn't, but that has always been my favorite time of the day so that is how I like to remember

Someone Else's Story

I feel pretty lame just posting a youtube video, but I really want people to watch this. An animated short by Pedro Serrazina, this is, "The Story of the Cat & the Moon". I watched this as part of "Cartoon Noir" on Netflix, but was so captivated by this, the first short, that I could hardly focus on the rest of the stories. I think it is so beautiful, I love the simple black & white, the silhouettes. I love this telling of feelings that I think everyone has at some point in life. So if you have time, I really recommend watching this.

Mini Munny

A friend of mine gave me one of the most amusing things imaginable, a mini munny! They're so cute! Little vinyl figures that you can take apart & basically do whatever you want with. The mini munny comes with an accessory in its box & mine had little glasses. For some reason, I was really worried about somehow ruining my munny, so I was cautious about doing anything at all to it & decided to just make a little friend who loves primary colors as much as I do.  Of course, as I was painting this, I realized just how impossible it is to mess up, plus I began thinking of about a million ideas for mini munnies so I definitely want to get more over time! Anyway, here are a few snapshots of my new little pal:

Stringing Charms

One of my favorite things to do is string charms onto a nylon cord & declare it a necklace. Odd mixes are my favorite, things that have nothing at all to do with each other, like this parrot & harp.

These two charms both came from a craft store which is a great place to look, but also check out thrift, vintage, & consignment shops for cute beads & charms!

Ugly Bird Goes Soft

I can't seem to stop making ugly birds! It's like whenever I am presented with materials to create with, one of my first thoughts is, "You know what I could make with this? An ugly bird!"

Anyway, here is a plush ugly bird. Soft & cuddly, she has a bit of an empty stare, but isn't as vacant as she looks!

Disneyland!

So while we were in the area, we decided to go to Disneyland. I hadn't been there in ages! Much of Disneyland was exactly as I remembered, everything is adorable & very detail oriented, the food is expensive & delicious (I did pack snacks as I am often peckish), & you really need to wear good walking shoes! I've got a few snapshots to share with you:

Walking down Main Street

A Finding Nemo ride

Spinning teacups!

In the very long line for Indiana Jones

On the Jungle Cruise ride

Anyway, I had a really great time, Disneyland is a lot smaller than I remember & luckily there wasn't much in the way of lines so it was really easy to pack in the full experience in one day. I totally want to go once a year!
